MINI-NUCS
These videos show aspects of using our Kieler mini nuc or mating hive, which are an excellent size for queen rearing, requiring only the same sized cupful of bees as an Apidea but being larger can accommodate the new queen for longer, allowing a better assessment of her qualities. Top bars are used in this design and a small starter strip needs to be added to the top bars before they are used. The first video shows one way of doing this.
One of their features is the ability to combine two colonies together using the upper body, either for over-wintering or if one colony is queenless. In this video we set out to show the uniting of two colonies - on the assumption one of them was queenless. This turned out to be a wrong assumption and the Headless Beekeeper messes up again! Part 2 to follow.
